Repair or replace

Should you repair or replace your air conditioner?

Age alone does not decide this. The part that failed does, and so does the refrigerant it runs on. If it lands in the left column we book AC Repair instead.

Repair it

There are good years left and the part that failed is not the dear one.

  • Under about ten years old and it has cooled reliably until now
  • A capacitor, a contactor, a condenser fan motor or a control board
  • No history of top-ups, so there is no long-running refrigerant leak
  • It runs on R-410A rather than R-22, though parts and refrigerant depend on availability
  • It still holds the house through the hottest week you have had

Replace it

The money is going into equipment that owes you nothing at this age.

  • Past twelve years, a normal life for cooling equipment in Calgary
  • It has been topped up with refrigerant more than once already
  • A failed compressor, or a leaking evaporator coil on an old unit
  • It still runs on R-22, out of production in Canada since 2020
  • It runs from noon until dark and the house never quite catches up

If a repair buys you another few good summers we will say so. Nobody here works on commission, so there is nothing in it either way.

In every AC replacement

What an AC installation in Calgary includes

Two cooling quotes for the same house can be thousands apart, and it is almost never the box that explains it. These six are on every sheet we hand you.

Sized on your house

Sizing measured on your own house: window area and orientation, insulation, air sealing and ceiling height, measured in your own house.

The condenser, coil and pad

Outdoor unit level on a pad that will not settle, an evaporator coil matched to it above the furnace, and a condensate drain that will actually drain.

Line set brazed and vacuumed

Lines run, brazed under nitrogen, pressure tested, then pulled into a deep vacuum before refrigerant goes in. The route through finished ceilings is agreed.

Circuit, disconnect and permit

Cooling needs its own breaker and an outdoor disconnect. A full panel is priced up front, and the permit sits inside the price rather than landing later.

Somewhere you can live with

Where the condenser sits is a design decision, not a convenience. Clearance on the coil side, room for shed snow, and not under a bedroom window.

Commissioned, not just on

Charge weighed in, superheat and subcooling checked against the manufacturer figures, airflow verified, and the temperature split logged for you.

Those six are on every AC installation Calgary quote we write, itemised by name. The 15% off new installs comes off the real number.

The process

How an AC installation works with TNT

Three steps, no salesperson, and no number that changes once we are in the basement. The same crew from the measuring visit to the commissioning.

  1. We measure first

A real visit to your Calgary house. We read the load, the static pressure across the ductwork, what the panel can give you, and where the condenser can sit.

  2. The price up front

One itemised sheet, priced off what we measured, and agreed before anything is ordered. You will know which stage of compressor is in the box before you sign.

  3. In and commissioned

Boot covers on, drop sheets down the stairs, the old refrigerant recovered and the old condenser away on our truck. Every technician here is a TNT employee.

The quote is written on the visit, not posted to you three days later. If your system is down right now, skip the form and call. 24/7 emergency service, an owner answers or calls back.

When to book

When should I book AC installation in Calgary?

Book AC installation in Calgary in spring, between April and early June. The whole city checks its cooling in the same hot week, so early means you choose.

  • April to early June

    Spring

    The quiet stretch

The quietest weeks for cooling work here. Widest choice of date, and the system gets commissioned in mild weather, not in a rush.

  • Late June to August

    High summer

    Everybody at once

The first thirty degree stretch is the week the whole city finds out its air conditioner did not survive the winter. Installs go behind a queue.

  • September to October

    Autumn

    The next best time

If yours limped through the summer, deal with it now rather than next July. It is also the moment to do the furnace on the same single visit.

Whichever month it is, the line is open. 24/7 emergency service, an owner answers or calls back, heat warning or not.

Paying for it

Paying for a new air conditioner over time

An AC installation Calgary homeowners did not plan for is a four-figure decision. Spreading it does not change the quote you approved.

  • Monthly promotions on installs

Promotions on new installations change through the year, so ask what is running when you book. Once approved, you sign off directly with the lender.

  • 15% off on every new install

The discount comes off the price we quote you. There is no list price marked up first so the saving looks bigger than it is. Ask about it when you book.

  • The full price in writing first

Equipment, labour, and what is included, itemised before any work starts. If something turns up on the day, you decide before we carry on.

  • Two year warranty on the labour

If our workmanship is at fault we come back and fix it, no argument. The equipment carries its own manufacturer warranty on top of that.

Subject to a third-party credit check. Approval and terms are set by the lender, not by us, and we will tell you what you qualify for before you commit.

Why TNT

Why Calgary homeowners choose TNT

An air conditioner is a box a hundred companies in Calgary can sell you. What separates one AC installation Calgary quote from the next is who bolts it in.

Sized, not guessed

A calculation before a recommendation

The commonest cooling fault we find in Calgary is a unit two sizes too big. It short cycles, never pulls the humidity out, and leaves the house clammy.

Measured on the way out

Commissioned, not just switched on

The temperature split across the coil goes on paper before we leave, with the airflow and the charge, so you have the numbers the system started life on.

In-house crew only

No subcontractors, on any job

The people brazing the line set in your basement are TNT employees, not a crew hired for a heat wave. The fifth install gets the standard of the first.

Priced once, in writing

Before a tool leaves the van

An itemised quote covering equipment, labour and electrical, with 15% off new installs on it and financing beside it. Anything unexpected, you decide first.

The same playbook

Same sizing measurements, same static pressure reading, same pressure test and vacuum, same figures logged. Started by family and friends, still run by them.

Every review TNT has ever received is a five star review. These are the people whose AC installation in Calgary we did.

Not only was TNT very reasonably priced, they fit me into their busy schedule during the heat spell and got me all set up in no time.

John Klassen
AC Installation

Jaime was professional and kept me informed throughout the entire process… His technician arrived on time, was knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all of my questions.

Glenn Jefferies
AC Installation

It was -30 kind of winter day… other companies asked for us to wait over 24 hours… Jamie came to service our non heating furnace within an hour and fixed the problem quickly.

Adelia Timirboulatova

TNT installed the furnace system on our new build, and then we proceeded to get our AC with TNT as well. Jamie was super responsive, kind, and informative… In addition to being fairly priced.

Christina Golubic

Amazing service. I would not go with anyone else. Jamie tells you the truth, stands by his work and follows up.

Robert Milne

Jamie and his team provide incredible expertise. They gave me consultative choices to improve my existing system, and clean installation done right… all at a fair price.

Would highly recommend. Check with TNT before making any decision regarding heating or AC install. Believe me. They were amazing.

Choosing the system

Central air conditioning, or ductless

Two routes into a cooled house. Which one you take is decided by what is already in the house, not by preference, and we tell you which on the visit.

Central air on your ducts

Central air conditioning shares the blower and ductwork the furnace already has, so the first question is not tonnage but whether the returns move that air.

Ductless, where there are none

A ductless air conditioner installation puts the compressor outside and the heads on the wall. The answer for houses with hot water heat, bonus rooms, suites and apartments.

Cooling and furnace together

Where the furnace is close to done anyway, one visit covers furnace installation Calgary and the cooling, with a blower matched to the condenser.

Either way the equipment is sized on a calculation, and the AC installation Calgary homeowners get from us is quoted in writing before anyone starts.

What it costs

What drives AC installation cost in Calgary

Cooling cannot be priced honestly over the phone, so ours follows a visit. These six things are what a real quote is made of.

  • The cooling load, not the size

A shaded bungalow and a west facing two storey of the same floor area need different equipment. Measuring the house decides it, before you are quoted.

  • Whether the ducts carry the air

We read static pressure first. Undersized returns are the commonest reason a new air conditioner underperforms here, and opening one up is on the sheet.

  • How far the line set has to run

A condenser twelve feet from the furnace is a different job from one on the far corner, run through finished ceilings that then have to be made good.

  • What the electrical panel gives

A first cooling install needs a dedicated circuit and the panel space to feed it. On a full panel that is quoted up front, not discovered on install day.

  • The stage of compressor you buy

Single-stage runs flat out every cycle. Two-stage sits on low for most of a Calgary summer, and an inverter ramps continuously. Quieter and steadier costs more to install, but saves you money over time.

  • What goes in at the same time

A furnace, a thermostat or a filter cabinet while the plenum is open. One visit costs less than two, none of it is required, and each line is priced on its own.

You approve a number and that is the number you pay. HVAC financing in Calgary spreads it instead, with monthly promotions on new installations, months, subject to a credit check.
